Chapter 3: Confusion Amounts | |||||
She didn't get very far. Laura and Colleen caught up with her in no time. The two of them had been counting on her attempting an escape, though not quite like this, and were prepared to run after her. Colleen ran in front of Jenny's way as Laura held her shoulders. "What were you doin', hun? That didn't seem like you at all! I mean, maybe you would act that way to another girl, but I have never seen you be so forward and angry with a guy! And to think you acted that way to the Backstreet Boys! What a story this will make!" Colleen's train of thought moved fast. With her mind all confused at the moment, Jenny couldn't keep up with it. Instead she turned to Laura, feeling helpless. "Lara, she is right about one thing. I have never done anything like that before to a guy, or guys. I don't know what came over me! I'm so confused. I was terrified, but for some reason my mind wouldn't let me act like I was! It was like it was telling me not to let them see my fear. Do you think it's because of my..." Jenny trailed off, not sure if Laura would want the kind of burden Jenny was about to place on her. "Because of y-" "This is so awesome! I bet the Boys are still sitting at their table all confused!" Colleen interrupted. "Colleen! I'm trying to talk to her. It seems to be pretty important, too. Let the thing drop for a moment and be quiet!" Laura pleaded. Colleen nodded with a red face, for it was apparent she hadn't realized what was really going on. Then Laura continued, "Because of your what, Jen*nay?" "My father." "Jennaynay, you need to stop dwelling on your father! Please, let him go!" All three of them looked at the sound of Alicia's voice. Colleen gave her a questioning look about how she knew what was going on and why she wasn't still in line. "I got my autographs fast and got some for you both," she gestured to Laura and Colleen, "when I saw what happened. As soon as I had them, I rushed over here. I was just in time to hear Jenny bringing up her horrible father again." "What's wrong with her father?" Holly and Rachael chimed that question together, arriving just in time to hear Alicia's last statement. They shoved their autograph books into their bags and returned their attention to Jenny, wondering what was going on. Jenny just dragged herself over to a bench and plopped down on it. Her friends followed her in silence, wondering what she was thinking. "Maybe you should tell 'em, Jenny. There is sure going to be a lot more confusion if you don't," Alicia said with a seriousness to her voice many of them had never heard. Jenny sighed and looked up into five pairs of eyes. "Can we talk about this someplace else?" she sighed again, "You all got your autographs right? I'm sorry I ruined your afternoo-" shouts of protests rose up and quickly died down as the girls realized they were only confusing her again. "You didn't ruin anything for us. Just tell us what's going on. And how Alicia is involved in this," Holly suggested. "First, we should get to the hotel, c'mon." She helped Jenny up and they all started out for the parking lot in silence. The quiet on the way back to the car and during the car ride was starting to get on some of their nerves, yet no one knew what to say. Jenny found herself once again staring out the window at the passing cars. Before she knew it, Jenny found herself trapped in her own pity and thinking foolish thoughts. I bet the people in those cars are going someplace happy. I bet they don't have problems like me. Upon arrival at the hotel, Colleen started talking. She couldn't hold it anymore. Still, she was smart enough to keep off certain topics. "Who is rooming together? There are six of us, so it should even out: two in a room." Laura shook her head and half-smiled at Colleen. "Weenie, it is way to expensive to rent three rooms. We are all bunking together. Double beds, so two in each bed. Then, we can rent extra wheel-in beds for the extra two people," Alicia reminded Colleen with a hint of amusement. Colleen blushed and smiled, then spoke in a weird voice "Whashu talkin' 'bout, Willis?!" The two of them giggled about the old joke from years passed. The laughs were soon nothing but sighs, and the girls were entering into the hotel room. Jenny collapsed onto the first bed and fell into an instant sleep. While it was obvious everyone else was disappointed that they would have to wait for the explanation that they all needed to hear, Alicia was actually relieved. She knew how hard it would be for Jenny to tell them all about her past problems with the opposite sex. The girl needed rest and time to calm down before her mind would be capable of sorting through her thoughts. It will be hard on her to share her feelings and problems with everyone. It will be good for her, too, though. Maybe it will even lift the burden off of her shoulders for a long enough time to let her enjoy herself for Spring Break. Alicia smiled and laid down on the other bed for a nap of her own, ignoring the requests for her to explain everything. Hey, with the way she acted to the Boys today, you might think she is coming close to getting over her fear. |
