Chapter 6: The Backstreet Boys | |||||
Alexander James McLean, Brian Thomas Littrell, Howard Dwaine Dorough, Kevin Scott Richardson, and Nickolas Gene Carter were waiting impatiently in their tour bus. Howie sat in boredom, subconsciously playing with his hair. Kevin was pacing back and forth, trying not to fall from the movement of the bus. AJ was slouching in his seat, loudly drumming his fingertips on the table. Nick was rapidly flipping through his comics, trying to find one that would take his mind off of other things. And Brian was lying back on the couch, trying to sleep. Every once in a while, Howie would squeal after accidentally pulling a hair, Brian would peak an eye open to check on what his buds were doing, Nick would make a small tear in a page, and AJ would glare at Kevin. "Kevin, man! You gotta stop the pacin'! I'm nervous enough as it is! If you continue to go up and down this bus I will go crazy!" AJ exclaimed. "YOU'RE nervous!? We are about to really MEET the girl that we are going to spend the rest of the summer with, and I know she is going to hate us after one day with you and Nick! You two are such slobs!" Kevin shouted. "Hey! I heard that, Kevin! What makes you think we are going to screw everything up, huh!?" Nick nearly shouted. "Well, let me count the ways, Nick! You took out the power in the hotel that one time, you have a long running history of pulling distasteful pranks," Kevin answered. "Those were all a long time ago! And my pranks aren't distasteful! They're funny!" Nick countered. Kevin just nodded his head sarcastically and rolled his eyes. Nick fell into a seat, inhaling and exhaling slowly, trying to calm himself. Kevin didn't notice. "Besides, who are the ones who messed up our first meeting with this girl? I recall Nick pissing her off, Brian making it worse, and AJ doing it a final time before she left. Even if she wasn't the most interesting person we had seen, she deserved this prize just for having to put up with you!" Kevin started again. "WELL ATLEAST WE MADE AN EFFORT! All YOU did was sit there and laugh like a simpleton!" Nick shouted. With that, Howie started snickering at both of them. Nick couldn't take it anymore. He stood up and shouted at Howie this time: "Oh, shut up, dumbass!" AJ immediately lunged out of his seat toward Nick's throat. Brian headed him off just in time to stop the blow. "Yo, no one disses D like that! You let it slip on MTV, but you can't keep it up! I'm sick of you thinkin' that you can go and do whatever you like! 'Rok, man, let me go! I gotta show Nick here that he is still the baby of the group!" AJ threatened. "Yeah, I know he is the baby of the group," Brian ignored Nick's protests at his choice of words, "but as his 'big bro,' it is my job to keep you from bashing him in, okay? Besides, he didn't really mean it. He is just high-strung right now, as are you and everyone else," Brian said, trying to comfort them all. This made Howie feel guilty for his misplaced laughter. "I'm sorry, too, guys." Nick nodded as an acceptance of the apology, as did Kevin, though he hadn't really been offended. They sat down again, feeling much more at ease. Then Kevin's eyes widened in shock and horror. "What if she really doesn't like us, guys? I mean, I had thought that maybe she was just so shocked and excited to be there that maybe she didn't really know what she was doing. Now that I think about it, I think she really DOES hate us!" Kevin admitted. "Kevin, she would have declined her prize if she really didn't want to come, so she can't hate us," Howie said. "I don't know, man. Didn't you see da hatred in her eyes when she looked at me and Brian?" Nick asked. "I noticed more than her eyes," AJ muttered. "AJ! PLEASE!?" the four others yelled in unison. AJ just shrugged, lying back in his seat and placing his hat over his eyes. "Well, I did notice that she didn't seem to be having all that much fun, but still, she wouldn't have decided to do this if she didn't want to at all. Maybe she was just having a bad day?" Brian suggested. The others seemed to accept his suggestion. They each sat down again, except for AJ who was already in his seat and lightly snoring. After several long minutes passed and everyone else appeared to be sleeping, Nick still sat with his eyes open, thinking. He could see the tall, sandy-blonde chin-length haired girl in his mind. Even in his imagination, she was scowling at him. I know the other guys said she probably just wasn't prepared for the meeting and really does like us. How can I think that, though, after the way she acted toward me!? Or to Brian or AJ? She didn't even get an autograph! You don't go to the autograph session of your favorite group, yell at them, and then leave without an autograph! You don't even do that to a group you only like a little bit! Nick silently sighed with a hint of sorrow in it. Maybe I'm just getting myself worked up over nothing. Maybe she really does like us. Maybe. |
