Sarg 9 - Vibheeshan Advices Raavan When Nikumbh, Rabhas, Sooryashatru, mighty Suptaghn, Yagyakop, Mahaapaarshwa, Mahodar, Agniketu, Durdharsh, Rashmiketu, Indrashatru, mighty Raavan's son Prahast, Viroopaaksh, Vajradanshtra, Mahaabal, Dhoomraaksh, Durmukh etc took all of their weapons, came and stood up in front of Raavan and said - "We will kill that Hanumaan, Lakshman and Sugreev along with Raam." At that time Vibheeshan asked them to sit down and said joining his palms - "Hey Brother, Whatever work cannot be done with Saam, Daam, Dand and Bhed policies, only that work should be done with power. Whoever is careless or is under some kind of calamity, even power should also not be used on such person. How you will win Raghunaath who is angry and full of desire of victory. Who can know Hanumaan who crossed such a huge sea, in the world; or who can even guess his powers? Hey Raakshas Raaj, You must not ignore His powerful huge army too. Secondly, what bad Raam did to Raavan, that Raavan abducted His wife? And if you say that Raam killed Khar etc Raakshas, so it is natural for everybody to protect himself. Every living being does that. In fact the cause of all this is Jaanakee, we should think about Her. Since She is the only fear, we should give Her back. It is not good to develop enmity with Raam who behaves according to Dharm. That is why we should give Jaanakee back before He attacks us. If you will return Her yourself then this whole Lankaa and all brave mighty Raakshas will be saved. Hey Mahaaraaj, As a brother, I request you to return Jaanakee to Raam. Hearing Vibheeshan's advice, Raavan sent everybody home and he himself also went to his palace. Sarg 10 - Vibheeshan Again Advices Raavan In the morning the Dharmknower Vibheeshan went to Raavan's palace. His palace was as high as mountain's peaks. Its individual houses were separated. Noble people, people who loved Raajaa and intelligent employees used to live in those houses. The breath of mad elephants used to spread fragrance all around. Conchs were always blowing there. There were many women and men going and coming. There was a high gold platform in the middle and that palace looked like the house of Gandharv, or Marud Gan, or Sarp. It had many gems studded in the building. As Vibheeshan entered the palace, he heard Mantra's sound pronounced by Ved knower Braahman. He greeted his elder and Kuber's younger brother Raavan. Raavan offered him an Aasan to sit by pointing to it by his eyes. Then he started talking his elder brother pleasing him - "Hey Parantap, Since the day Jaanakee has come here, I have been observing many bad omens. Many Yagya were performed but the fire didn't shine in them, rather it got blackish with smoke. Snakes appeared in kitchen, Agnishaalaa and Ved study rooms. Cows' milk has dried, horse do not eat grass properly. Flocks of crows sit on the buildings. Jackals cry in the morning and evening. In such conditions, I think it is better to return Jaanakee to Raam. Even if I have said this because of any greed or in ignorance, still you should accept it ignoring its faults. These bad omens work equally for all. No minister has told you all this, but what I have heard and seen, it is my duty to tell you. Now you should consider all points in a justified way." Vibheeshan said all this in the presence of all ministers. But Raavan got angry at this. He was very firm in his ideas, so he said - "I don't fear anybody. Raam can never get Seetaa from me. He cannot stay in front of me in battlefield even if He brings Indra etc Devtaa for His help." And Raavan finished his conversation with Vibheeshan.
