Notes-22
How the exile period was spent? The total exile period is of 14 years. Bharat's vow to self-immolate is on the next day of the end of the exile period of Raam, if He would not come back. Raam kept His vow and He arrived in Ayodhyaa the next day of His exile period. It is believed that Raam stayed in Chitrakoot for two years. He completed His ten years of exile staying in the forest near "Panch
Apsaraa" Lake. As the description of His stay is given in several Shlok of
Raamaayan, it comes to sixty months, which is equal to 5 years. But Dharmkootam
counts it as ten years completed here up to this place. Even one Shlok also
clearly describes that "Raam completed ten years living there along with
Seetaa." My Note: It seems to me that it may be possible, that Raam completed His two years of exile in Chitrakoot, ten years of exile at all the places combined and two years in Panchvatee. [Taken from Valmiki Ramayan, 3/5] |
