RULES/REGULATIONS

It is very important that all competing members read the following rules.

1. Paperwork must be completed by all Bhangra team members. Paperwork is due no later than January 30th , 2001 or the applicant will be not be eligible to compete. Please make sure that the BNT has the following by the due date:

a) Photocopy of University Student ID card for each applicant. Applicant must be clearly recognizable from photo.

b) Each member of the team must provide a letter on university letterhead from the Registrar’s office stating that each of the applicant’s are registered students for this academic year (i.e. Fall ’00 and Spring ’01). The university can provide a single letter as long as each member is listed in the letter.

c) The student’s represented organization must provide an official letter (only one team will be selected from each university).

2. Expulsion: The use of illegal substances and/or alcoholic beverages will not be allowed. Being under the influence at or near the Theater will result in immediate expulsion from the premises. Such behavior will not be tolerated.

3. Point and financial penalties will result from the following: use of glitter; tape on stage floor; messy props; indents on stage floor; structural damage to stage floor at the Michigan Theater. There may be no changes to the stage floor either temporary or permanent.

4. Maximum dance time is 8 minutes. Major point penalties from judges if you exceed 8 minutes. A minimum of 10 points will be deducted on each judge’s evaluation form for exceeding designated time.

5. Show Day: Teams in the first act must be backstage by 6:30 p.m. Second act teams must be seated in their designated seats by 6:30 p.m. In the event that you do not comply with this rule you will be DISQUALIFIED.

6. Comparisons will be made. Each team member must present their student ID card for admittance to the Michigan Theater. The ID card will be compared to the original photocopy sent with application.

7. Team members: no less than 8 and no more than 16 on a team.

8. Unpaid assistant/gopher: Only one person will be allowed over and above the maximum of 16 team members. This appointed person, unless Midwest Bhangra Blowout Team is notified in writing, will be able to move about while the team is waiting behind the stage or during the team’s performance.

9. Mandatory dress rehearsal: Each team will be assigned a 15-minute dress rehearsal time slot. The first time slot will be at 12:00 noon. Any team missing their allotted time slot will NOT be allowed to practice on the performance stage.

10. Privacy rule: No team or person affiliated with a team will be allowed to observe another competition team either during dress rehearsal or before the competition.

11. Random order of competition: It will be announced the day of the competition in which order the teams will compete. You will be moved in and out as quickly as possible but be prepared to miss 6 other performances while waiting backstage. If your team is the last act of a half you will automatically miss that entire half of the performance.

12. Recording devices: All recording devices whether audio, video or in any combination will NOT be allowed at any time inside or on the Michigan Theater premises on the day of the event.

13. Disqualification: Please make sure all team members are aware of all of the rules mentioned previously in this document. Any rules that are not adhered to may result in an individual or team being disqualified. The final decision on this matter will be determined by the Midwest Bhangra Blowout Executive and Registration Chairs.

14. Added rules/regulations: In the event that the Midwest Bhangra Blowout Team deems it necessary, they may add or update the rules and regulations in regard to the Michigan Theater or the competition itself. If there are any changes or additions, they will be forwarded to you in the post-registration packet.

TEAM REGISTRATION INFORMATION AND GUIDELINES

Guidelines

§ Eligibility: Trio Productions / C & C Entertainment and/or Midwest Bhangra Blowout do not discriminate against any college or university or Individual Team Participating. A team may be submitted by any university or college.

§ One team will be the maximum allowed from each university or college.

§ Team members must be full-time registered students at the time of the competition.

§ Strict adherence to all rules, regulations, deadlines, and guidelines by all team members for this competition.

§ Confidentiality of all aspects of the competing universities’ dances, choreography, special effects, music, and lighting. Only official members of the Midwest Bhangra Blowout committee will have access to this information.

§ Midwest Bhangra Blowout Team members may be allowed to participate in any committee that has access to team information.

§ The registration process must be adhered to for the Midwest Bhangra Blowout Team and/or Trio Productions / C & C Entertainment to have a position in the competition.
