Big Bend National Park - enroute
We got left for the National Park from
Alpine about 10 a. m. (a little late, as it turned out). We went
around the east way and home along the west road. We all like to be
aware of wild life and plant life that is special to the areas we
visit. Nancy and I were interested in the similarities to the Sonoran
Desert around Tucson, AZ, where we lived for eleven years, as well as
the differences. Annette and Larry were especially anxious to find
and photograph Pronghorns and Javelinas for the new
Naturescapes
site on their
eduScapes.com
web site.
It was about an hour and a half down to
the Big Bend National Park. Along the way we stopped at a couple of
the overlooks (not all). One had dinosaur bones, I think this one
where Nancy took a picture of Annette and Bill was related to
volcanic activity. Very interestings stuff along the
way...
We did get lucky and saw a small herd of
Pronghorns (I honestly won't swear which day and where we saw
them!!). Annette jumped out of the Explorer and went over to the
fence to get some closer shots. I took this from the window.
The Visitor Center at the Park had very
nice exhibits. I'll put a link here later. There was a ghost town
that we would like to revisit, but didn't have time this time around.
The
Basin, where we stopped for
lunch, and a surprise, and the drive to the Rio
Grande completed our
trip.
