Saturday 21st JULY 2007 St.Bedes Hockey Club is turning 25!!?? Yes we certainly did turn 1/4 Century this year, amazing stuff really that a small club like ours has had the successes that it has and that is due to the hard work of a lot of people who don't get enough recognition for it. Many thanks go to the fellas who set up this club, without it we'd be either:
a) fat(ter) and watching footy all weekend
b) playing for some other loser club like Mentone and not knowing half the people you play with's names,
or c) playing footy with a bunch of bogans and drinking a slab each saturday night and having group showers.
So thank god for that.

Anyway on to the review. The palatial surrounds of Mentone RSL the venue, which had been prettied up by the lads on Sat. morning, and guests were greeted by the door bitches of Sam, Ben and Macca. Not the best start to a night but I digress. Finger food and free beer was a bonus, and it was fantastic to see a lot of the older blokes like Peakey, Tony Begg, POB etc who I hadn't sighted for a while. JV was the MC for the night, interviewing the founders of the club and some of the minor celebrities who had pulled on the St.Bedes shirt over the years. Laughs were had, beers were drunk (especially by Nick Brown and Waffles Kennedy, who slightly overindulged once again) and a good time was had by all. The Sederino's went 1-2 in the door raffle, which highlighted the multiculturalism of the club with Dave and Will being of Italian descent and baby bro Mark hailing from Greece.

As it so often does, the night continued on at JV Villa/Casa del Valastro whatever it's called, and it was bloody cold but not cold enough to stop boozing or playing table tennis. Stu did some more card tricks and Canadian and Dry was the drink of choice for those with a more discerning palate, while the rest drank some weirdo beer Ben got from some back alley deal run by Tony Mokbel's cousin in Clarinda. Some gaps start to appear about 1.30ish but I feel confident I'm not alone in that boat. If anyone has anything more to add let me know, but overall it was a top night for the club, hopefully some pictures will be up in the near future.
