Good Friday Fish Fry

Hi everyone. Today is April 10, 2004, Good Friday. This morning my daughter called me and invited me over to her house for lunch. She and Nathan were cooking seafood. Well, you never decline an invitation to eat seafood, especially on Good Friday when Catholics don't eat meat. The group included, Vicki, my daugher; Nathan, her husbanc, Della, his mother; abd me. Look at what we feasted on. It was so Good. Many say the food is so good in New Orleans but nothing can beat seafood cooked by Cajuns. Enjoy!

onion mum

ONION MUM: The appitizer is first. The onion was beautiful when it came out of the pan. As is evident in the picture, we really enjoyed it. It was well seasoned and we had a dip near by to help douse the fire.

frying pan

The shrimp are in the frying pan and have started cooking.

Look at the shrimp. They look small but they are very large. We call them 'Jumbo Shrimp'

shrimp1

Look at them sizzling in the oil. You don't have to cook shrimp very long. When it browns a little more they will be taken out

shrimp2

They are ready. You scoop they out and put them on paper towels to absorb the oil. They were crispy but moist. So Good!

oysters

The oysters have started cooking. I don't like oysters but they do. Vicki likes small ones that are cooked dry. She dosen't like the slime when they are undercooked. That seems odd because she likes to eat they raw, so does Nathan. If you can eat them raw(and alive) then I don't see why you would not like them moist.

fish not cooked

This is the fish before they put it in the oil to fry. This is red snapper. It was caught offshore near the drilling platform. Many of the men offshore will fish when they finish work for the day. I'm so glad they do. This is one of the best tasting fish around.

fish

The fish is done! Doesn't it look great.

fish2

No resturant, anywhere, can serve food this good. It was so good.

Cole Slaw

This is fresh cole slaw. I don't like cole slaw but it really is pretty.

Potato salad

The potato salad was great. I ate only a spoon of it because of the diabetes. I prefer to cheat on fish and shrimp and a hush puppy instead of eating potatoes.

seafood

Thisis the seafood: shrimp, oysters, and fish. It is so beautiful.

Seafood2

It is so pretty I had to take another picture.

Well everyone had a fine meal and we had dessert too. Vicki made strawberry shortcake with fresh strawberries. It was delicious.
