The making of "Real Virtuality"

It's probably trivial knowledge to say that things are easier thought of than actually made.

This is an experience we also had with the production of this CD. The idea was born more than one year ago, probably in some late-night talk with Klemens, our good friend and kind-of-producer.

It was clear to us that we wanted to record a CD with our own songs along with compositions by musicians who have influenced the way we play. It also was apparent that we would do it on our own, keeping the budget small and producing and releasing the CD by ourselves.

Some time passed, we were busy working on our chops to get the songs just the way we wanted them while Klemens organized the recording equipment for the session. We wanted to keep the atmosphere on the record as much "live" as possible, so we decided to record all parts together and do the recording in our band rehearsal room. Thus, the first recording session took place on June 1st/2nd 1996.

We say first session here, because after the rough mixdown of the tracks, disaster struck: One of the digital media crashed, taking half of our valuable recordings with it ... (I don't want to talk about what is called backup storage media here ...)

In any case, a period of time followed that was marked by calls to the various hardware manbufacturers, but in the end, we had to admit that we would have to rerecord at least half of the tracks. So, we made up our mind and said: Let's do the whole thing again, at least as good as last time! This lead to our second recording session, which took place on June 21st/22nd 1997 under the roofs of Basel.
