Jay'Em is what you can call a self-made-musician. At the age of eighteen he tought himself to play the guitar. Starting with the occasional covers and campfiresongs he discovered he could entertain people with his guitar and voice. Unfortunately, his first acoustic guitar, a Fender Catalina, was stolen out of a car in Germany, where he performed for the boy scouts of his hometown Elewijt.

From then on, he started to play the blues on an old guitar his father once made and at each occasion he had.

When he was about twenty, he was able to buy his first electric guitar. From then on he started practicing and studying the Texan guitar style of Stevie Ray Vaughan. A year later he found Tim and Harry Paredaens to become Cold Shot.

They toured around their hometown until they found out that there were some other guys that used the same name for their band. That's why they changed their name into Jay'Em & The Suitcases. The guys will change their name live on the First Festival of the Empty Blues & Folk Ashtray.
