On this page I would like
to share some insight of the McKeesport Tiger Band program to
freshmen, their parents, and also upper class students. Any
alumni of the band who would like to contribute to this page, please
send me and e-mail with your thoughts. Any parent who has
a specific issue that they would like to have answered, please
send me and e-mail with your questions. |
1. As an incoming
freshman, I'm worried about meeting new friends.
2. Isn't the marching band a huge time investment?
As an incoming freshman, I'm worried
about meeting new friends.
Participation in any extracurricular
activity is a great way to meet new friends, and to help identify
yourself. In the McKeesport Area School District, there are several
middle schools that are combined at the high school. The marching
band is an excellent way for a freshman to meet new friends from the other
middle schools. The first few weeks of the summer are called what is
known as "Rookie Marching". Only the freshmen go to
this. It is for them to learn how to march before joining the
upperclass students. Rookie Marching gives the freshmen an
excellent chance to meet other new freshen who are experiencing the same
things as themselves.
Isn't the marching band a huge time
investment?
As incoming students, the marching band
program seems like a huge time consuming event. You may doubt
that it is possible to give so much time to the band. If you tough
it out through the first few weeks, you will have an excellent chance to
meet new friends and learn new lessons. After you get used to the
program, it doesn't seem so bad. The band program gives students a
chance to learn some good work habits such as time management.
