Senior Fledglings

Quinn still couldn’t believe her good luck at bonding the first ever light purple at Ryslen. For Alskyr’s sake, she couldn’t believe her good luck at having bonded at all! Even over a year after that memorable day, Quinn was still in love with the white purple, and her every quark. Except, perhaps, at that very moment.

“Holrirosth, you turn around this instant and take us back!” Quinn yelled from her perch on the back of the dragon, straining dangerously against her restraints. Since bonding her lovely dragon, Quinn had changed from the girl she had once been into the woman her parents had wanted her to become. Partly.

Quinn was graced with good looks and a soft temper, and with Holrirosth’s help, had refined her speech, mannerisms, and people skills. In all, Quinn had become a valuable ambassador and skilled trader, and Caer Brynmor had approached her very quickly, followed by others just as interested in picking her up. She and Holrirosth had chosen Brynmor.

“Holrirosth!” She yelled again, thumping the dragon on her shoulder to get her attention. Tail lashing slightly back and forth, the white purple turned a huge eye back to glare at her rider.

“Holrirosth, I have to be back for dinner to speak with the people from Brynmor.” She said angrily, and Holrirosth snickered and shook her large head.

Have you look in the mirror lately, rider mine? Obviously not, but I can see quite well the bags under your eyes. I decided to take you on a bit of a vacation until you look more rested up.

“You can’t just decide that!” Quinn said shrilly, her eyes widening in shock as she realized what her beloved bond was saying. “Holrirosth, get back to Ryslen now!”

The dragoness refused to answer, and Quinn suddenly felt the pull that only came with a teleportation. It was a risky business, teleporting, but Holrirosth seemed to love it, and would disappear only to reappear hours later telling her of all the amazing things she’d seen.

Quinn started blinking as soon as they entered the bright light and she knew they were no longer on Alskyr. How, she wasn’t sure, but the trees looked different, and the sun brighter and more yellow than it was on Alskyr.

“Where are we?” Quinn asked softly, looking around as Holrirosth circled, watching the ground carefully for something.

Here. She said softly as she landed, warbling loudly to a red dragon who appeared out of nowhere to swoop down towards them.

“What, you just expect me to stay here happily as you refuse to give me information…hey, where are you going?” Quinn screamed as she watched Holrirosth take off into the air, flirting with the red as they flew away from where Quinn had been dumped.

“Holrirosth, you little lizard, get your scaly hide back here!” She roared, both verbally and mentally, but the white purple simply laughed and kept going.

“I don’t believe it…..I don’t believe it!” She said, standing and watching until she couldn’t see the dragon anymore.

“Don’t believe what? That they left?” A masculine voice said from behind her. Quinn spun around, unaware that anyone was there, and cleared her face of all emotions.

“I’m sorry, I didn’t see you there.” She said sweetly, extending her hand as all of her lessons came rushing into her head. Be friendly, flirt gently, don’t push them too hard for information.

“Not surprising, as you were busy screaming at your dragon.” Said the man as he shook her hand, and Quinn could feel her cheeks reddening.

“I’m Quinn.” She said with a smile, looking around and clearing her throat. “Do you live here?”

“Shards, no.” He said unhappily, crossing his arms and leaning against a tree. “I’m T’rion, and that red beast brought somehow brought me here and refuses to take me home until these eggs have hatched.”

“Eggs?” Quinn said, tilting her head and looking at T’rion curiously. His dark brown hair was getting rather long for her liking, but he had amazing eyes and an imposing figure.

“Care to see them?” T’rion asked with a grin, and Quinn couldn’t help but smile and nod, following him down a well-worn path towards what looked to be a small cave.

“There.” He said with a nod towards a miniature dragon and her clutch of numerous, oddly colored eggs.

“They’re so cute!” She said softly, stepping forward and grinning at the tiny nest.

You can stay if you wish. A tiny diamond dragon said as she appeared in the air above Quinn, and jumping back, stepped on T’rion’s foot, making him laugh as he helped her stand.

“Let me guess, she offered for you to stay?”

“Yeah.” Quinn said softly, and T’rion chuckled.

“And?”

“Well, it doesn’t look like I’m going home anytime soon anyway, so why not?”
