Bond Story of Shaeya

Shaeya had been avoiding the company of people for months now, and her nerves were wearing thin. When the call came for all bonders to get to the sands, she was more than happy to oblige......until she saw all of the people.

"It's all right, Shaeya." Caissene soothed, pulling her onto the dunes and smiling reassuringly. "The sooner you're in, the sooner you're out, right?"

"I guess." Shaeya allowed, licking her lips nervously and refusing to move onto the sand any further than she had too. Caissene hovered between her and her brother, Caiseal, until Shaeya waved them on. "I can manage."

Caissene smiled again and was gone, leaving Shaeya surrounded by strangers....most of them men. She had an urge to scream and claw and kick, but Etln settled on her shoulder and crooned softly, rubbing a slick head against Shaeya's cheek. Sighing, Shaeya found a spot at the back of the group where the sand was piled up. Climbing it, she found herself away from most of the bonders, and with an excellent view of the sands, which is where she settled in for the hatching.

Her attention was drawn to one of the mounds of eggs. Soon, everyone looked – Shaeya could see all the heads turning - and the dragons above started their song in full force as if they’d never been stopped. The huge noise deafened many and startled a number of the bonders. Shaeya had heard it before, though she couldn't say where exactly, and so was less startled and listened to the song in their voices. It was a beautiful tune, and when they were at their peak, several eggs from all over the sands erupted open.

Two from far off beyond where Shaeya could see, but she was able to keep track of them because of the bets going on and she was not far from the main exit. That thought was slightly reassuring, and she strained to see the new hatchlings.

The dragons shook shells off of their wet hide, and then paced toward the awed bonders. Everyone held their breath. There were five, radically different looking dragons. A red-skinned and white-wing-sailed one, a stone-and-striped one, a deep blue with vivid wings, and two dark greens of wildly different looks.

The red dragon made her choice quickly. She – it became apparent when she bonded – quickly bonded and she and her choice moved off the sands.

Next to choose was a strange looking hatchling. He was brown for the record, Shaeya heard later, but he was dappled with rust shade and his solid-backed wings were grey on the outside and deeper rust on the inside. But what made this dragon extra odd was that at regular spaces down his whole spine, where each of the small triangular ridges were, a darker rusty colored streak-stripe dripped down. The dragon looked as though he had rusted nails along his back...and he strode carefully up to a strange creature. They quickly bonded and followed the first pair off the sands.

The darkly colored blue, with small horn-buds on his head which matched those ivory tines coming off his wing-wrists, stood onto his back legs and began fumbling about looking for his bond. With a reddish gleam in his whirling eyes, the blue suddenly bellowed, startling several candidates and making one or two back away. They left room for him to walk along and find his choice. The handsome Caiseal, who glanced with a grin at his twin sister who still remained near the back of the sands. Shaeya felt a smile pull at her lips and Etln trilled happily from her shoulder.

"They will go well together." Shaeya agreed with a nod, admiring the deep colored hide as the blue and Caiseal moved by.

When the lighter of the two dark greens approached the bonders, many of them backed away at her snapping jaws and Shaeya found herself very glad she was near the back. The green already had a full mouth of teeth, and her grey-green wingsails snapped open when she wanted through. Obviously, her bond knew she was coming, and the two moved quickly away.

The darker green, with the high Ryslen neck ridge and strong curved wings, shook sand off her feet before carefully examining the throng of bonders. All the bonders in the world seemed to be here. She shook her head, and then sat down beside her choice, where the two stayed and talked for a few brief moments before following the previous bonders off the sands.

While the pairs took their time choosing whether to remain or seek food, another four eggs broke open. The dames seemingly cheered on their hatchlings, and Shaeya was startled when Etln squealed and launched herself off her shoulder, leaving a deep gash in her shoulder.

"Etln!" Shaeya snapped, reaching for the amber flit and missing. Her attention was quickly brought back to the hatchlings, even though her shoulder stung. The brown-red dragon had a spectacular speckling of white dots along his whole body, with tiny ones on his limbs. White candy-striped wingsails completed the image, and the slender-legged long-tailed dragon went directly to the theater group. Shaeya recognzed them for their prideful stance and fancy clothes and attitudes. She couldn't help but feel a twinge of guilt that they bonded before her.

Another deeply colored dark-green hatched, Serrith’s prize daughter. The only reason Shaeya knew the hatchling and her mother was she had learned the names of some of the dragons, and Serrith was one of the more....intimidating that stuck in her mind. The hatchling had sharp spines running down her neck, while her black hindquarters nearly disappeared into shadow. The elegant looking dragon slipped through the crowd, and found Shaeya hovering toward the back. Etln reappeared and landed on her shoulder while Shaeya tried to still her pounding heart.

It is all right. We will make sure that you and your loved ones never get hurt again. I will make sure to protect you.

The green’s mind touched the sore spots of shame and fear within Shaeya’s, but instead of leaving them raw, the protective dragoness wrapped her wings around Shaeya and dared anyone else to approach. “It’s...it’s all right Scleanth, I’ll be okay for now.” Shaeya heard herself say, and oddly, she knew she was right.
