Riders

M'ki stuck his head in his sister's weyr, not even noticing the boxes littered around the place as he called for her. "Kurana! C'mon, you're going to be late!"

Kurana appeared from on of the doorways, looking rather guilty as she tried to hide the boxes. "Late for what, M'ki?"

The brownrider's grin increased as he straightened, coming into full view of his sister. "They're giving wing assignments, silly! Didn't you get the message? Hopefully we won't be in the same wing..." The brownrider made a mocking face at his sister. It faltered as the greenrider just stood there looking more and more sheepish. "Kurana? They're all waiting for you down there!"

"I... uh..." She flushed, averting her eyes from her brother's. "I'm transferring!" The greenrider finally blurted out, flushing under her brother's indignant gaze.

"Transferring?" M'ki whispered. "But I thought that you- oh, it doesn't matter." The brownrider looked down, and scowled, scuffing his shoe in the floor. "Where to?" He asked gruffly.

"Beach Shards..." Kurana replied quietly, trying not to feel guilty. "The Weyrwoman came and saw me. She said there's a place for you too, if you want it..." Kurana looked hopeful, even though M'ki loved Tripaldi, and she doubted he'd want to leave.

"No." M'ki stated predictably, not meeting his sisters eyes. "I thought we'd be together all the time, but obviously this Weyr is more important to you than me."

Kurana frowned deeply. "You know that's not true." She said in a harsh voice. M'ki could be so self-centred! "We grow up, M'ki. You can come with me - but I like Beach Shards. Not that I don't like Tripaldi."

"I like it here. I'm never going anywhere else." M'ki said in a cold voice. "I guess I'll see you later then, Kurana, if you're leaving soon. Thankyou for telling me so soon, and all, it's very much appreciated." Kurana winced at his sarcastic words. "Have a good life."

"M'ki-!" The greenrider started forward as her brother started to go out of her weyr. "M'ki, you hidebound wherry! We're only a short hop between apart!"

"That is true." He answered in an annoyed tone of voice. "But I expect I'll be too busy in my new wing to have much spare time. Goodbye, Kurana." And then the brownrider was gone, striding briskly through the door without looking behind.

Kurana gaped after him, angry that her brother didn't even wait for her to explain. He was so self-centred! Well, two could play that game!

Stiffening her resolve, Kurana turned back and started packing more of her things.
