As built each of the two units had two old open frame KTM motors, each drawing about 1 A running light. With a total of close to 4 A, most power packs could not handle them and for several years only one unit could be run at a time. Even replacing them with Pittman Dc-71's, they would have drawn about 2.4 A at full load. When NWSL introduced the Sagami can motors, a solution was at hand with less than 2 A. full load. A major problem was squeezing the motors between the shell mounting rails.
