REPOWERING EXAMPLES


In general, examples are not "COOKBOOK", but are intended to provide ideas and methods, which can be used on similar individual projects. Since the methods used are varied, most of these can be applied to other projects with some modification. In many cases, combining parts from several examples may solve a specific problem. In some, various approaches were examined and drawn with XCAD and found to be impractical. Being inherently lazy, the easiest, acceptable method was chosen. Availability of parts at development time was a large influence.

In some cases, more specific examples of methods are found in similar jobs. Several examples have alternative solutions listed under different methods. In the Mantua MU-2 power truck case, both methods may be combined to reduce speed to about 40 SMPH for trolleys and industrial switchers. Many manufacturers use the same basic mechanism on different wheel arrangements by varying number of drivers and pilot or trailing truck wheels with modifications to frame only.
