With the traction rings, the loco pulls well; but removing them reduces tractive effort. Powering the dummy truck and adding weight can bring it back up. A new truck may be bought, cannibalized or the dummy modified. In the latter, a motor, geared wheels and cover plate are needed. In either case the frame must be modified to clear motor swing. ![]() Note: Adjust brightness and contrast for optimum viewing. Top view showing motors and swing slots next to outside rails. Remove shell, wires and dummy truck. Using power truck opening as a guide, cut out hole for new power truck. Mount new truck using old power truck as guide for assembly. Check truck swing. Wire both motors in parallel, after determining that both trucks run in the same direction. Track test and install shell. Although loco tops out at about 160 SMPH, no easy solution has been found for regearing to 100. BACK TO REPOWERING EXAMPLES |
