The Second Intercontinental Gathering For Humanity and
against Neoliberalism

Took place in the Spanish state in the last
week of July and the first week of August 1997, some 3000
people attended from 50 countries including
Italy, Spain, Mexico, Switzerland, France,
Germany, Denmark, Canada, USA, Finland, Ireland, Britain,
Belgium, Sweden, the Czech Republic, Greece, Austria,
Portugal, South Africa, Chad, Cameroon, Rwanda, Senegal,
Togo, Morocco, Turkey, Israel, India, Bangladesh, Australia,
and Indonesia, as well as nearly every country from South
America.

Some of the history of preparation for the second gathering
- The
Swiss
Zapatista group
proposed
a meeting to begin planning for the European hosted "Second
Intercontinental Encounter for Humanity and Against
Neoliberalism". Their was
feedback
on their letter then the meeting was held on the
22 Dec 1996.
- A second meeting was held in Barcelona in Februray of 1997
- A European meeting was held in
Prague in March
a consulta had been
prepared to get many opinions on how the second encounter should
be organised
