'Death of a Billjim' & 'The Ride of the Valkyiries'

Anyone one of the "Billjim" (Light-horsemen) below, dismounted and engaging the enemy, knew that at any moment he or one of his mates could be killed or maimed.

Below, a mate leans over comforting Lt. Palmer in his final minutes before being conducted by the Valkyries to Valhalla.

The monument below to the Light-horsemen was originally located in the Middle East. But then it seems for some inexplicable reason—perhaps someone didn’t want any evidence around that would indicate the true liberators of the Holy Land— it was relocated to Australia. Amazing.

It's time proper monuments were established in symbolic cities like El Arish (Sinai and Nth Qld!), Jerusalem and Damascus, and cities in Australia – with an inveiling ceremony coinciding with 80th Anniversary commemoration festivities on October 1, 1998. Major judeo-christian nations, British, Americans, French, Israelis, etc., should finally show Australia tangible gratitude and recognition.

The Ride of the Valkyries

According to Celtic/Norse legend, 12 Valkyries (choosers of the slain) led by Frigg, consort of Odin (or Woden), the head god of battle and victory, would descend upon the battlefield, and conduct selected fallen warriors back to Valhalla – celestial hall of immortality into which the spirits of the warriors are received and justly honoured for their valour.

[Norse tradition is probably more imbedded in our everyday lives than any other. We use their names all the time in Woden’s day (Wednesday) and Frigg’s day (Friday).]

And now, the spirits of the “Billjim” of the Australian Light Horse, mounted on their beloved Walers (bred in N.S.Wales) – the spearheading cavalry force of the Middle East campaign (El Arish – December 21, 1916 to Damascus – October 1, 1918) cometh from Valhalla for:

"The Ride of the Billjim '98".

It’s time to square up. It’s time to expose L’Imposteur, once and for all.

The Billjim, and proud Australians, want what belongs to them – recogniton from the world, especially those that benefitted the most, for achieving what no other force had been able to do in 400 years – the capture of the greatest prize in modern history – the Holy Land.

*Richard Wagner's "The Ride of the Valkyries" was made famous in the soundtrack of Francis Coppola’s "Apocalypse Now" (played on the ‘chopper’ loud speakers by Col. Kilgore’s Air Cav. as they descend upon the enemy). Wagner in turn was influenced while composing the piece by the philosophy of Arthur Schopenhauer (1788-1860) where in one act Woden bequeaths the world to Hagen. Schopenhauer is the only pre-modern philosopher still relevant in the quantum age, especially his aptly titled "An Apparent Design in the Fate of the Individual" (a rare paper, highlighted by Joseph Campbell in his "Creative Mythology").

Australian Liberators of the Holy Land

Australian Light-horsemen (naturally suited to conditions, similar to the Outback) liberating the Holy Land from 400 years of Turkish tyranny 1916-1918.

Left, the ride up through Jerusalem, and below the march up the Philistine Plains.

Above: In full flight – the famous charge of the Australian Light Horse Brigade at Beersheba, October 31, 1917.

Left: No. 1 Squadron of the Australian Flying Corps spearheaded the air attack as well, and did a lot of Lawrence’s requested bombing raids which helped to puck up the tenuous support of the Arabs. One of the pilots being the famous Ross Smith, who like many others came from the ultimate background for this type of fighting – the ALH!
