Curtis Mathis

You can look at this band a couple of ways. It was either formed from the ashes of bands like Leon, Neophyte's Serendipity, Circle Theorem and Booger Band or it was just something completely new. The band consisted of Vic (guitar) and Vince (bass) Moya and Chris Betlemjemski (drums)

Vince and Vic December 15th 1995

I view it as Vic Moya with Circle Theorem. They first played together live December 15th 1995 at the Sydenham Humpin' Benefit as Vic Moya With The Booger Band. It was just an experiment for something fun to do at the Benefit show where they could play the crowd pleasing songs Cigarette and Eat Taco Paco. Mainly it was to give Vic a chance to play besides doing a solo acoustic act.

At this this time Circle Theorem and Vic Moya With The Booger Band were still separate bands. It was after the last show of Circle Theorem, December 29th 1995 which saw the departure of Ryan Korczack shortly after from that band in January 1996. Circle Theorem was left without a guitarist. Naturally Vince got his brother Vic to fill in Ryan's shoes. After months of practicing Curtis Mathis eventually came together and was ready to play shows.

First known poster with their new name

It is not known when they decided to go under the name of Curtis Mathis or when Vic officially joined up with Vince and Chris. Most of the shows that they ended up playing were usually with Cartoon Khaki since there was the split 7 inch that they recorded July 25th 1996 and released later in September 1996.

August 4th 1996 at the Pelican

The Naked Boys 7 inch remained as their only recorded material besides the few live shows that were recorded to a tape player.

December 27th 1996 at the Pelican

February 7th 1997 saw the short lived addition of Jimmy Tsronis as their second guitarist. He only appeared twice live. Through 1997 the band played few shows. After October 31st 1997 the band eventually fell apart.

Curtis Mathis In Print

There was a short mention of them in an ad in Entertainment Brantford?, Issue #5, August 1996.

There was a review of the December 15th and 17th 1995 Humpin' Benefit shows in Humpin' In The Back Room 'Zine, Issue #6.

There was a couple mentions of them in Humpin' In The Back Room 'Zine, Issue #7, December 1996 for the August 4th 1996 show at the Pelican, and in an article by Vince which follows:

Boogers here and there:

by Vince Moya

- John (from Clayton) and I (from Curtis Mathis, Tinkersan, and Booger) have produced another bastard offspring, The S.O.B .. no.. not Sons of Bitches, not Salami on Bologna, not Speed on Brantford, not Skids on Butane, but Sons of BOOGER. Is it just like the old Booger? To say such a thing would disrespect the misguided times of Chris and I. But it is a Guitar and Drums project, with me on the drums instead of an upright or stand up instrument. We're working on stuff.. and as of now (this writing) we have about 12 songs. We're not however, gonna make a 90 minute cassette like the last Booger band. And will we finally include Dave in something?.. We don't know. Just don't be surprised to see a s.o.b. appearing sometime soon!

- A new Tinkersan tape? Maybe. Not if Curtis Mathis gets on that material first!

- Curtis Mathis/Cartoon Khaki split 7" is red vinyl. Out now. Get yours before Ania gets mad at us for using her mug shot! The recording is crisp for 33 1/3 speed. And the songs are great!
