PEO Council and Staff must appreciate the help members can give in establishing policy, and members must feel comfortable raising issues with Council.
PEO Council must establish a clear strategy for involving engineering students of Ontario's universities and the EIT's in the association's regulatory framework through the chapter system.
I am strongly committed to contributing to PEO's strategic plan and governance. Our profession needs to seriously consider the issues of specialization and quality assurance in professional practice. The Professional Engineer designation currently bestows the right to provide engineering services without defining the area(s) of practice or specifying a quality assurance process as other regulated professions in the province of Ontario do. The Certificate of Authorization required from professional engineers to provide engineering to the public must be revised in order to really protect the public interest and not complicate further the practice of the profession.
