Updated 4/6/2002 平和のための退役軍人会・メーン支部は、日本国憲法の解釈を変えることを阻止する違憲訴訟*を応援します。日本はアメリカが超大国として振る舞い、日本のような他国を米国のクローンにしてしまうような外交政策の道具になるべきではありません。ブッシュ政権は中国や北朝鮮を悪の枢軸と呼んでいることは特筆されるべきです。わたしたち平和のための退役軍人会・メーン支部はどちらの国も悪とはみなしておりません。日本にとっても環太平洋の国々が悪魔の国でなく親しい国のほうがいいですよね。米国が環太平洋諸国に関してこのようなレトリック （修辞・たとえ）を使ったり、軍事力を増すことは、日本の憲法解釈を変え、日本の権力者に本来ある軍事力を増強したいという意味で、日本を危険にさらすでしょう。たとえば、アメリカのレトリックと行動に対して、北朝鮮は最近ミサイルテストをしたい誘惑に駆られていますが、北朝鮮は米国に近すぎる日本の好ましい隣国とはならないでしょう。 日本国憲法の解釈を変えてはいけません。日本国憲法は世界の残り全ての国々のモデルであり、世界のピースメーカーたちのの最高の伝統なのですから。平和のための退役軍人会・メーン支部は、日本がいつものとおり礼儀正しい国であり続け、ワシントンの戦争屋に「NO」と言うよう、尊敬の念をもって奨励します。日本国憲法の戦争放棄の条項は彼らに対して「NO」と言う理由となります。 人道的な支援は「YES」です、しかしアフガニスタンへの砲艦は「NO」です。 平和を トーマス・スタートヴァント プレジデント・平和のための退役軍人会メーン支部 Maine Veterans for Peace encourages you in your suit to prevent the change in the interpretation of your constitution. Japan must not become a tool of U.S. foreign policy which is to remain a hyper superpower and have other countries, like Japan, act as U.S. clones. It should be noted that the Bush administration has "demonized" both China and North Korea as part of the "axis of evil." Our Maine Veterans for Peace group regards neither country as inherently "evil." Wouldn't it be better for Japan to have countries on the Pacific rim who are friendly nations not evil demons? More escalation of U.S. rhetoric and military power on the Pacific rim endangers Japan, hence the natural desire of Japanese ruling circles to increase Japan's military power by reinterpreting the Japanese constitution. To illustrate: The North Koreans recently felt compelled to test a missile, a test which I believe could be directly linked to the tone of hostility in U.S. rhetoric and actions. Angry North Korea does not make for a pleasant neighbor to Japan, a Japan with ties too close to the U.S. Do not change the interpretation of the Japanes constitution. It is a model for the rest of the world and is in the best tradition of the great peacemakers of the world. Maine Veterans for Peace respectfully urges you to be your usual polite Japanese nation, and say no to the war mongers in Washington, D.C. That no-war clause in your constitution gives you a great reason for saying no to them. Humanitarian aid, yes. Gun boats to Afghanistan, no. PAIX, Thomas C. The horrors that Japan faced when the United States dropped two atomic bombs on civilian cities is something that should never occur again. This was the ultimate terrorist attack. We are against Yuji Housei and ask for a non-violent solution and dialogue with other nations. Rather than change that, (a step backward, in my opinion,) I only wish all the other nations of the world-including my own-would do the same!
