This constitution has been a model for those people of all nationalities who desire a more peaceful world. I am painfully aware that several US administrations have tried to undermine that aspect of your constitution and draw your country into our military orbit. We should, instead, emulate Japan instead of insisting that it imitate our mistaken refusal to learn, clinging to a fallacious belief in violence. At least, I want you to know that there are many of us here who do not agree with our warlike president and who support you and your fellow citizens who want to preserve your constitutional commitment to peace. Sadly, Japan's leadership has not demonstrated a willingness to deal constructively with the historical reality of its hegemonic aggression during the early decades of the 20th Century. This is exemplified by the omission of any true and full account of Japan's actions during that time. Until such time that Japan can sincerely acknowledge and correct its past evil actions like Germany has done, exercise of military power for reasons other than self defense should continue to be strictly prohibited.
