Summer 2009

It's now the Summer of 2009. I know I keep saying it, but my how time flies!

This December, Tim and I will celebrate our 10th Anniversary. There are ups and there are downs, but I cannot imagine life without him.

Sadly, Yahoo! has decided to end Geocities, but I'm brushing back up on basic HTML so I can put the site back up somewhere... and who knows, I may get my old UNC site up again, too. But of course, you can always find us somewhere out here... Facebook... MySpace... Twitter...

We love to travel, but neither of us are very crazy about flying... so we've driven on each trip so far. We've made several trips to Canada, and we're planning a huge road trip this summer to see the Southwest. We're excited to spend a lot of time in New Mexico, sampling the foods and the views. We'll also spend some time in Utah, Arizona, Colorado, and a couple of days in Las Vegas. It's going to be a lot of driving, but we love being able to take a sudden detour to see things along the road. I'm particularly excited about seeing the old Route 66 sites that remain.

Last summer, we did Gay Days at Disney, and I'm sure we'll do that again. It can be hotter than Georgia Asphalt, but it sure is fun to be there with so many like-minded folk. Later in the summer, we breezed through Montreal and Quebec City on the way to visit Tim's family. It was a wonderful trip, especially since Tim's now out to his brothers and sister.

There are still many challenges that face us as gay people. Same sex marriage seems to be gaining steam, and we're pleased that North Carolina has remained the only Southern state to avoid writing discrimination into her constitution. Not only that, we just passed an anti-bullying bill that protects all kids in schools regardless of their sexual orientation.

It's also encouraging that we finally have a president who puts thought into his decisions. It's wonderful to hear an intelligent man, who can speak in clear, well formed sentences, lead us. We are indeed hopeful.

There remains much to do. Keep up the good work. Come out to those you know; they'll love you anyway. And if they don't, they needed to be confronted with your truth.

Be who you are!
