April Fools! It was Conversion Day! Well, not exactly.
It's been coming for months, and there are not many more months to go until the first of June, when they said the new interface for clubs would be in place, tested, and glitch free (we all have dreams). In the CFC office pool, I picked April 1st as the inaugaration day, the ultimate April Fools' joke. And it looked for a while there as if I were right (did you notice all the glitches this weekend?). But, no, false alarm.
When will the conversion come? We are asked this question nearly every week. What we've been told in the group called Yahoo Clubs, hosted by Warren, is that we, its members, will get a warning, which we can pass on to our friends, you. How long in advance a warning that will be is anyone's guess. I don't think even Warren knows. I have this picture of a somewhat nerdy bunch of folks sitting around in a conference room over styrofoam coffee cups, looking at scribbled notes on yellow legal pads. One looks up and says: "well, guys, let's do it. Let's unleash the hounds of chaos." And the next thing you see is white screen with the words, "Clubs are temporarily unavailable. Please return later."
So, my next two guesses--I picked three--were Easter weekend, kind of right there in the middle of the month, and the first of May for which the International call for help would apply--May Day, not merely as a pun but as an indicator that we're all going to crash and burn. <shudder>
This month, we offer a couple of timely hints: how to save your members list, how to create table graphics and text together in the owner message in groups (a couple of cut&paste table structures), and HTML/Lesson One--all requested bits from our members.

# - K Post Winner: julmichellegr66
Message board numbers represent milestones of club activity. As we approach a post thousand, we announce that the contest is "on" and the prize to be awarded for the person posting the message closest to that number (CFC founders and SPAM messages are excluded).
In March, we saw the posting of MB#4000. It was posted on the seventeenth at 2:14 pm by julmichellegr66 in connection with a thread she began concerning the deleting of posts in groups. The prize includes recognition of entry, reprint of text of entry, and a two week featuring of the winner's club in CFC inclusive of the graphics display. While we still await julmichellegr66's decision on which of her clubs she would like us to feature, you can see a list of past #-K Post Winners on our homepage (Click Here).

Sometimes, the events in our clubs and groups represent real "horror stories," the sort of thing that keeps us awake at night or make us want to go screaming into the oblivion of not participating.
Welcome to the second annual CFC Horror Story Contest! Despite the Halloween flavor, it is genuinely about those irksome, ire raising, and, somehow, inevitable events that plague our clubs. ...and this year, our groups. In the past, we've heard tales of horror about members stalking members, message board hecklers, SPAM-mers, persons who use clubs as a tool to harrass others, missing founders. Such stories by no means exhausts the potential for trouble others can create or, indeed, we can create for ourselves. And, of course, there are two parts to the story--the problem and how it was solved. Your solution may be the usual, or it may be unique, may differ from the expected, or may suggest resources we didn't anticipate and need to know.
One of the main goals of the CFC Horror Story Contest is to build a base of problems and their solutions to help fellow founders/owners/cofounders/moderators. Between April 1st and midnight on May 13, 2001, we want to see your stories on the message board in CFC. In order that we may know that it is a contest entry, we ask that you put the words "Horror Story Contest Entry" in the subject line of your post. You may enter as often as you like with as many stories as you choose (not the same story each entry). Oh, and watch for answers to your entry from other members, who may offer other solutions to your problem in case you should ever face the situation again.
Prizes will include:
Grand Prize - Featuring (or re-featuring) of a club of your choice, reprint of horror story, winner's graphic logo for display. If you win and your club/group has not been featured before, your club or group will be featured for two weeks. If you have been featured before, your club or group will be featured for one week, and we do mean all new stuff. (See what Featured Clubs get).
Second Prize - Reprint of horror story, personal logo image for Yahoo! ID Profile use, winner's graphic logo for display.
Third Prize - Reprint of horror story, winner's graphic logo for display.

Judges Wanted! This is your chance to get in on the contest even if you don't have a horror story to share. We're going to pick a panel of judges to join the CFC administration in deciding the winners. You can be in a judge, in fact, even if you do participate (you just can't vote on the merits of your own story) so CFC administration members will be participating also. If you are interested in being a judge, write: Arryl@hotmail.com with the words "Horror Story Contest Judge" in the subject line.

Topic: Season's Change Celebration |
Summary: In the northern hemisphere of this planet, March 21st welcomes Spring on the calendar; in the southern, Autumn. We thought we would leave the 21st open so that you could celebrate with chats in your clubs. However, we did not want the occassion to go unmarked in CFC, and besides, we were due for a discussion of the haps with merger. So, whether you were in the process of taking the woolens out of the cedar and mothballs or getting ready to put them away, this chat was for you.
Among the topics discussed were favorite pet stories, chat avatars, differences with the new Yahoo! groups interface, the fall of Mir, and other odds and ends.
Attendance: Mistybunny, Cathouse_Colony_01, NOWAYWINS, AngelPie_Mouse, irmgard_au, and heidi_a_h.

Posts to the Message Board 03/01/2001 - 03/31/2001
With nearly three hundred posts this past month, the Thread Digest was just too large to publish except as a separate page. So that's what we're doing...click here.
Because these digests are getting so large, we've got to ask: do you really read and use them? If not, there's really no point to the exercise of recording all the post numbers and sorting them out by subject. So, if you do use them, please send me an e-mail saying: "please, don't stop creating the Thread Digest!" If I hear from enough people, I will continue them. Write me: AngelPie_Mouse@yahoo.com.
Help Wanted: We're looking for a noble soul who will take the time and trouble to locate the beginning of threads of discussion on a continuing basis over a thirty day period and record them and then send the report our way--sort of a message board reporter. If you would like to do this job, if you're already doing it for yourself and are willing to share, please contact AngelPie_Mouse@Yahoo.Com. We'll give you the by-line to this regular feature of the newsletter.
