In December, one of the members joining us listed a group as name alone among the clubs of which that person were founder. We're used to every club URL beginning with "http://clubs.yahoo.com/clubs/" and we know that all groups were being converted to "http://groups.yahoo.com/group" (notice the singular rather than plural in the repeat position), but it gave us pause to have a group listed. Do we include it on the MCL (Member Club Listing) as a separate entity or as subordinate to a club? We had just never listed groups before.Yet, listing groups separately makes sense. We are all going to be groups pretty soon afterall. Just when are we going to recognize that there is no real distinction between clubs and groups any longer? After conversion? Now? When?
Networking is networking regardless of whether the entity is a club or a group. Many of the problems are the same for both--especially those having to do with the psychology of group dynamics--and will remain the same through conversion. Yet, with the addition of new features on both sides, there are tons of new questions to explore. If CFC is to remain a vital aid to your needs, it needs to welcome groups, to adopt a new mindset that acknowledges present differences, and to begin answering group problems on its message board.
Do you have a groups question? Asking questions about groups on a message board that has been dedicated to clubs to date may present some problems. One is bound to get some answers that do not apply simply because the person answering did not understand that the question was not about how things are in clubs but how things will be. While we don't want to be unfair to groups owners/moderators, we don't want to confuse them either. So, we were going to ask one small favor: if you have a groups question, could you please stipulate (Groups) either in the topic or as the first thing you say in the question at least until conversion day when it will no longer be necessary.

In the northern hemisphere of this planet, March 21st welcomes Spring on the calendar; in the southern, Autumn. We thought we would leave the 21st open so that you could celebrate with chats in your clubs. However, we did not want the occassion to go unmarked in CFC, and besides, we're due for a discussion of the haps with merger. So, whether you are taking the woolens out of the cedar and mothballs or getting ready to put them away, come join us for a little chat on Thursday night, March 19th.
The term "thread" comes from the days of EBBs and Usenet/Newsnet. It refers to a series of posts, which may or may not be on topic but begin with the same subject heading. "Re:" on our message board can either be taken as "regarding" or "replying to," for example. Pointing to the beginning of a thread, you can sometimes gleen important bits of discussion pro and con on an issue, allowing you to make a more informed decision. We use the term a little more loosely in Yahoo! clubs, where a response can often be as much off topic as on.The main concern of this digest is to point to beginnings of threads or significant entries concerning them or important postings that you might want to visit again. We do not bring you the entire post--a complete repost would take far too much space. However, we do offer the entry number, the subject line, name of member posting, date, some overview of the content, and a list of related posts (if any) over a 30 day period (+/-) in the listing below.
