We provide the following services to the boating public and the river residents:

Search and rescue operations are provided with the use of our two Patrol-owned purpose-built lifeboats. One is a Seatamer Rampage 5.99-m Cat 1 vessel. The other is a 7.01-m Cat 2 Water Ambulance. The majority of this type of work is towing vessels that have broken down. We do not charge for these services but donations are encouraged and gratefully accepted.

Public education courses are conducted from time to time. These include an Introduction to Power Boating course, at the end which Waterways Power Boat License test is conducted and a marine radio course which enables people to obtain the necessary qualifications to operate a marine radio. If you would like more information about the courses we have running at the moment please see the Training section.

Water Ambulances are the most important function of this division. We have converted both of our lifeboats into Water Ambulances. "P.V. Mooney Rescue" and "P.V. Water Ambulance Mooney" are the only vessels on the NSW Ambulance Board's list of Ambulances (No. 920 & 921). We maintain the Ambulance in ready state for use by the Ambulance Officers of the Mooney Ambulance Station and crew the boat with our volunteers when we are on duty. The local Ambos are all members of the Division and trained to the Patrol's Red Coxswain level. This is an invaluable service to the local residents in the water access areas of the river.

Weather Reports and warnings are received automatically via fax from the bureau of Meteorology and are available to any member of the public either by radio or in person.

Monitor Marine Radio Frequencies and Channels
  1. 27.88 & 27.86 megahertz
  2. VHF Channel 16 & Channel 67
Test calls to our base radio are welcome, so that skippers can be aware of the performance of their radio equipment on their vessels.
