"Why didn't we think of that???"
This page, once it's really set up and going, will be exactly what it's called: an Idea Center. Or really, an Idea Exchange Center. Ever made an Edible Fire? Or done a sleeping bag relay?? How many times can you turn around with a cup of water balanced on your forehead? Every month or so, a different world, field, program area, or type of activity will be featured on the site. Visitors are invited to submit whatever ideas they've had, seen, or done for that topic. Some of the best answers will be posted on this page; all of the responses will be put on an Archives Page where you can come and look for ideas to take back to your own council or CGS group. So many different people have so many different ways of doing the same thing that we can all learn a lot from each other. At the bottom of the page, we'll post the next month or two's questions so you can think ahead.
For September, since everyone is just getting rolling for the year, we'll start with the most basic of CGS activities:
You are person number

RECRUITMENT . We all have to do it, and we all wish we could do it better.
So what have you done that really seemed to work? How did you get the word out?
What didn't work??? How do you make Girl Scouts- the nerdy, geeky
impression of it that most high school kids have- into something that a busy college
student would want to do? Think about it, and submit your answer here. (You can
also use this page to submit ideas for future questions.)
will start us off with what we're really here for: program ideas.
This month is prime "Fall Camping Trip" time- far enough into
the year that the troop has gotten organized and the girls have
begun to get to know each other, yet early enough in the year to
pull off a tent camping trip with good chance of decent weather. What hints or cool ideas do you have for teaching camping skills? How about for surviving the trip itself with all campers (and all grown-ups' tempers and sanity) intact? Any good rainy-day activities, especially for tent camping?
Now that they've done away with the Worlds of Interest :-( , we have to help
the leaders find ways to make the "Four Program Goals" fun. What are some
activities that you've done that fall into the category of "promoting (or developing) values" (or
any of the other goals)? How can CGS help with this? What do you think of the decision to
abolish the Worlds?
the end of next semester and the National Conference to be held in New York/New
Jersey in May 2000. If you could plan any aspect of this conference, what would
you like to do? Is there a specific theme (like fundraising or recruitment) you think
we should cover in a workshop? Is there a particular topic or concern that you would
like to see addressed in a national publication for CGS groups and potential/startup
CGS groups? If you could tell one thing to a group of folks who wanted to start a
CGS group, what would it be? Any particular sights you'd like to see or things you
want to do while you're in the city? What (legal, publicly acceptable) activity would
make this your dream trip?
