About Gagan
... aka skylight ...

I bet you must be wondering about this freak who keeps calling himself by the unearthly name of Skylight. The time has come to break this suspense and introduce to you the real me. My name is Gagan Prakash and I respond to Gagan (Is that a thunderous welcome applause that I hear?). I was born on the 28th of November (That makes me a Sagitarrean... and I never knew how to spell that word) in Faridabad, a town close to New Delhi in Northern Indian.

So why call myself Skylight?
GOOD QUESTION. But the answer is simple if you can speak my mother tongue, Hindi. So, my first name, Gagan, means Sky and my surname, Prakash, means Light in Hindi. Hence, I can call myself either Gagan Prakash, or Skylight!! Now I bet that wasn't so difficult to figure out.

Allow me to now introduce you to the people I love most: My family. My father, Mr. Pramod Prakash is a Metallurgical Engineer from one of the most prestigious universities of India, Roorkee University. My mum, Mrs Sunita Prakash did her Masters of Arts in Sanskrit from Allahabad University. I also have a younger sister, Sapna, presently studying in the computing faculty at the National University of Singapore and breaking her head on evils like java and unix.

And now to get back to me... I stayed in Faridabad for the first 4 years of my life and then shifted to Jamshedpur. It must have been a big change since unlike Faridabad, Jamshedpur lies to the east, about 250 km west of the east Indian metropolitan city of Calcutta. Like Faridabad, Jamshedpur too is a major Industrial town of India. It has many important industries, including Tata Iron and Steel Company(TISCO)), India's most profit making steel plant, and Tata Electrical Locomotive Company (TELCO). It is no wonder that the town is called "The Steel City". It is named after the founder of TISCO, Mr JAMSHEDji Nusserwanji Tata.

When in Jamshedpur, I studied in Loyola School and completed my +2(Equiv. to JC2) there. After that, I got a scholarship, sponsored by SIA and NOL to study engineering in Singapore. I landed in Singapore on the 8th of July, 1995 and pursued a degree in Electrical Engineering at the National University of Singapore. Presently, I am working as an IT Availability Specialist at IBM Global Services. My field of work is the WebSphere family of products. I am currently working hard to get myslef certified in various WebSphere products.

I enjoy working on Computers, computer games, surfing the net, programming(okay..okay.. I am a computer freak.. so what..?), Cricket (Proof of my Indian roots), Comix (yes, I haven't grown out of them yet and possibly never will), tennis and swimming (the latest additions) books, philately, movies and the list goes on and on!

If you want to be an addition to my long list of friends, you are invited to send me an email.

I guess a personal Home Page is incomplete without pictures. So here are some pictures of me, all in JPG format.
