Ginebra wants Feihl back; No way says player.
Ginebra San Miguel is bent on retaining EJ Feihl. But as far as the seven-foot center is concerned, playing for the La Tondena franchise is out of the question. "We're definitely keeping him (Feihl)," said La Tondena president Ber Navarro. "He is too vital to our team." Navarro also bared that team officials scheduled a meeting with Feihl's mother last night hoping to save the negotiations. But it seemed too late for that. Feihl is determined to leave.

"Sana bitawan na ako ng Ginebra," Feihl said yesterday in a telephone interview. ``Wala naman akong ginagawa sa kanila." Feihl is setting his sights on playing for Formula Shell and denied his request for transfer does not have anything to do with money. "Hindi naman ito tungkol sa pera," he said. "Gusto kong lumipat sa Shell dahil tingin ko mas magagamit ako doon." The league's tallest player is enthusiastic with the possibility of being the starting center for the Zoom Masters taking over from Benjie Paras who takes on a power forward position, a role many believe suits Paras better. "Hindi katulad sa Ginebra na wala akong place sa loob dahil kay Marlou (Aquino)," Feihl added. Feihl called a press conference last Friday to announce his plans to leave Ginebra after contract negotiations reached a deadlock.

The conference irked Ginebra officials who said Feihl was conducting himself "unprofessionally." Short of saying that Feihl is only after money, playing-coach Sonny Jaworski sarcastically said, "Kung papangakuan ka (Feihl) ba naman ng trip sa Roma at tatlong Mercedes Benz, siguro'y mag-iisip-isip ka." Asked about the prospect of Feihl sitting out the season, his agent-manager Nonie Mediarito said that they are hoping that the situation wouldn't go to such extent but ruled out the possibility of his client returning to the Gins. "Ano na lang ang sasabihin ng mga tao pag bumalik siya sa Ginebra?" queried Mediarito. "Ang hirap kasi parang isinuka na kami tapos kukunin uli. Hindi naman maganda iyon." "Why stop him (Feihl)," he added. "It is his right to transfer to another team. Kung hindi na siya masaya bakit pa siya mag-iistay?"
