Here we pay tribute to the great players who have made Real Ale Sociedad F.C. the world famous football team it currently is.
Ewan ABEL
Vocal, tough (or should that be "rash"?) -tackling defender who was an automatic choice throughout Real Ale's inaugural season. Flossy, whose favourite phrase is "DEFENCE, OUT!", was a vital presence at centre-half, although he says his favoured position is full-back. Although the Aberdonian was lost to Heriot-Watt University after the 1998/99 season, he returned to marshall the defence for one match in the 1999/00 season,
against fellow basement strugglers Uni Hall Tigers, with the results immediately noticable as Real Ale conceded a measly nine goals.
John DAWSON
Londoner John, best known as his alter-ego Ian Lee of Channel Four's Eleven O'Clock Show fame, was a legendary utility right-sided player, on the wing or as full-back, and a prime mover in the formation of the club. Also a former president of the Real Ale Society itself.
Neil MASSON
Although this Aberdonian played only a single season (1998/99) before departing to join the Navy, Neil arguably has done more than any other player to achieve Real Ale their infamy. Although most fondly remembered for goalkeeping gaffes which still bring a smile - or grimace - to the face of Real Ale players, he also had some useful qualities, such as undoubted bravery, and a willingness to play in goal when nobody else would.
Simon PLIMMER
Left-winger of boundless enthusiasm, whose playing-for-the-jersey attitude would have endeared him to the fans had there been any. Enjoyed his finest moment scoring a goal in a friendly match, but played only in 1998/99 therefore limiting his chances of scoring competitively.
