November, 1999

Dear Disc Devotees,

CONGRATULATIONS and THANK YOU ALL for your membership fees paid and outright donations given to the Club by the end of October. Actual cash and or checks in the bank totaled $950 with rumors of more on the way. Our immediate goal of keeping the use permit intact for another year is a reality! The insurance premium of $725 was paid, the use permit fee of $40 was paid and our corporate tax liability of $200 is covered for the fiscal year.

What next, you say? TEE PADS, we say. It's time to begin the task of building and maintaining concrete tee pads. Our resources are not that great and we'll have to do a pay-as-you-go when we find the people to contribute their labor and money. In other words, if we don't have any confirmed volunteers to work together with the money donated for the specific task at hand, then there will be no progress on tee pads. The goal is to complete 1 to 2 pads per Saturday and raise $100 in donations for that specific task. No $100 and no confirmed work force will mean tee pads will not be completed anytime soon. If things get going real good, then we'll be doing 2 Saturdays a month on tee pads and raising at least $200 a month for the task. Right now we'll plan on one Saturday a month and that date for NOVEMBER is SATURDAY the 20TH. We're looking for confirmed bodies and money in the bank and then we'll see you on Saturday the 20th of November. Call Jim Challas at (408) 371-9984 #17 if you can help or donate.

The first CORPORATE TAX RETURN will be filed by November 15. We're also simultaneously sending in the application for an IRS status as a non-profit corporation seeking a 501c3 designation. We'll hear from the IRS regarding the designation by the first of next year. Hey, if we can become a 501c3 with the IRS, you never know what the possibilities could be. People and companies donating money to benefit disc golf and receiving a tax deduction? What a great idea. Good luck to us on this one.

For those of you that are not aware, the REMAINING 7 HOLES for the course will go in when we're able to come up with 2 bridges that can cross Coyote Creek. The bridges need to be removed by mid-October and can be placed back into service by mid-April. We're responsible for acquiring the bridges as well as for the annual placement and removal. The County Park & Recreation Department will allow us a storage area in the winter for the bridges.

There's been some "talk" about having MONTHLY TOURNAMENTS at Hellyer. What it will take is at least 1 person to get the disc rolling on this issue and say that they will run the event. Ideally, we'll find enough people to rotate the responsibility of running the monthly. A suggested time would be either the 2nd or 4th Saturday of the month in deference to the Delaveaga and UC Monterey Bay tournaments that are held on the 1st and 3rd Saturdays. If you have an interest in running the Monthly Tournament, then call Jim Challas at (408) 371-9984 #17. Scorecards and scoresheets and pencils are ready and waiting for the Monthlies to begin. All it needs is you.

THANKS also are in order for the WATER BUCKET BRIGADE of disc golfers who have faithfully carried the 5 gallon buckets filled with water from Coyote Creek to the recently planted trees and bushes. We only lost one tree out of the 13 planted and all the 12 bushes are in good shape and ready for nature to take over the watering for awhile. That represents over $900 worth of plantings that have survived and prospered. The Use Permit with the County Park & Recreation calls for more trees and bushes to be planted and maintained. The water buckets are located on the side of the 18th fairway that is closet to the freeway. The buckets are easy to find and can't wait to see you next summer or sooner if needed.

Well, that's enough news for now. Hope to hear from folks soon. See you at the course.

The Board
