1998 Season Preview - Introduction
by Carlos Curro

Thanks for joining us as we get ready for the 1998 Fantasy Football Season. As we did last year, we'll be covering in these pages two leagues. The first one is Global Football League (on ESPN Fantasy Football 1998), going for its third season (second of coverage here), welcoming back three "survivors" that also played last year: the Sao Paulo Travelers (owner Carlos Curro), the Sao Paulo Big Passaros (owner Luis Curro), and the Crown City Thorns (owner Kevin McBreen). The Travelers finished last year as the runner-up in GFL, losing to the now gone Screaming Meanies in the "Global Bowl". The Thorns captured third place in a victory over the Big Passaros in the 3rd-Place Definition Game. We welcome all other new owners to GFL.

The other league is in Sandbox/Yahoo, named Straight Outta Lima. The Sao Paulo 55ers (owner Carlos Curro) and the Sao Paulo Hard Plays (owner Luis Curro) will be in this league - they played in 1997 Pele's League, and now move ahead to this new competition in SOL. There's one other brazilian team in this league: the Brazil Cheating Lawyers, owned by newcomer Ricardo Motti.

Also, if time allows me, I'll try to cover a Head-To-Head Fantasy Game I play every year since 1995 with my brother, Luis Curro. We select a total of 22 players (4 QB, 5 RB, 5 WR, 4 TE, 4 K) and 2 Defesive/Special Teams units each. There're no trades or waivers/free agents allowed (that's why we have such big rosters, you have to stick with them until the end!), and we go head-to-head in each of the seventeen weeks of the NFL, with a seven player (1 QB, 2 RB, 2 WR, 1 TE, 1 K) and one defense lineup. The scoring is simple:

TD's Rushing or Receiving, or by Defense/Special Teams 6 Points
TD Passes / Field Goals 3 Points
Extra Points 1 Point
Two Point Conversion (for each player involved, e.g. 2 for QB, 2 for WR in a pass) 2 Points

In the first two editions of the head-to-head, Carlos Curro won them both, with 11 wins and 6 losses in '95, and 11 wins, 1 tie and 5 losses in '96. Last year, Luis Curro came back from behind to get his first win, with a record of 9 wins and 8 losses.

"Apology is Policy", as I'm usually with no time to update the pages, so I'm very sorry about this. I know how tough it is to come to a page and see it's not updated yet, so apologies to all who will come here day after day, even with my never-in-time reviews. I hope I can do a better job to keep the pages up to date!
