Braintree Town Football Club was first founded in 1898 as 'Manor Works Football Club' by the Crittal Metal Window Company hence the nickname 'The Iron' which still remains today. The present Cressing Road ground was opened as a sports complex in 1923 and from then on the club gained senior status joining the Spartan League in 1928. Even with the introduction of floodlights in 1976 the overall cost factor necessitated another return to the Eastern Counties League and by this time the company was itself taken over leaving the Football Club mainly to it's own device. Fund-raising became an important aspect so to identify itself more closely with the Town, the club amended its title to 'Braintree & Crittal Athletic'. Finally all links with Crittals came to an end in the early 1980's and the club was faced with a desperate situation, but with a lot of good will and effort from members achieved a fresh lease of life. Under the new banner of 'Braintree Town Football Club' We began an exciting era. Our club Braintree Town Youth Football Club, aims to develop your child's football skills and opportunities. We currently run youth teams for 9-18 year olds. Each team holds their training session during the week, arranged by their manager. Generally all matches are played on Sunday's. The season runs from September to May and some participation in 5 - A - Side tournaments takes place during June and July. At the end of the season each team holds a presentation evening to which we encourage families to support their child's achievements.
