Sligo Rovers 3-0 Derry City Rovers trounced last season's champions in this North West Derby game. Sligo started in fine attacking form, forcing five corners in the first ten minutes. After twenty minutes Derry's Darren Kelly saw his header hit the crossbar. This was to be Derry's only chance in the entire game.
Rovers' took hold of the game and after 36 minutes Neil Ogden scored from a 20 yard free kick. Derry's keeper, Declan Devine had no chance at all. Four minutes later Rovers doubled their lead. Padraig Moran scored an excellent goal, he evaded three tackles on a blistering run from the half way line and slid the ball under the advancing Devine. Glorious. Rovers were in complete control and were needless to say playing marvellously. After 76 minutes Falcon Rose cleverly put Moran through and he drew the keeper before calmly slotting the ball home. Derry's night of misery was complete when Rovers old boy, Robbie Brunton was sent off for hitting out at Steve Jones. Derry were missing former Sligo captain Gavin Dykes. Cunning timing by his sister to get married on the day of the game. Rovers: Westhead, Cubbesson, Hutchinson, Reid, Shearer, Ogden, Jones, Moran, Thew, Rose, Lynch. Subs. Berks for Ogden (75 Mins.) Daly for Lynch (81 Mins.)
