HISTORICAL ACCOUNTS

The CounterCoup.org website began Wednesday, November 8, 2000, as a central listing place for protest locations for Nov. 11. Interest was so strong that we created an eGroups.com message board, trustthepeople (not related to the wonderful site TrustThePeople.com) to allow people to communicate directly with others in their area. After Nov. 11, to plan much larger protests for Nov. 18, the trustthepeople board split into about 70 local organizing message boards. Since then over 2,000 people joined the lists and helped to plan the Nov. 18 protests.

Again, the CounterCoup.org website listed protest locations for Saturday, Nov. 18 at 1 PM, which helped organize local areas, as well as directed people to go to the eGroups.com message boards to connect with others in their particular area. People showed up to the protests with (and without) signs and fliers.

The following is the website information for the Nov. 18 demonstrations.

If election "irregularities" in one state are allowed to invalidate the nation's popular vote, then democracy is in real trouble.

There are several constitutional ways in which this popular vote could be respected. The pundits are just waiting to see whether we, the people, insist on it.

A presidential candidate has won the popular vote and may well have an electoral majority, but is in danger of losing the White House. Even worse, it looks like election fraud and error in Florida is responsible. There are two possibile solutions:

First, It is important to understand that the constitution DOES NOT require the electoral college to vote state-by-state using a "winner take all" system. It is perfectly constitutional for the electors to represent the popular vote. Bush should step down and ask electors to cast their vote for Gore. If the guy who got the most votes doesn't win, then IT ISN'T DEMOCRACY!

Of course we can't count on Bush to do that, therefore a revote should be held in Palm Beach County, where over 19,000 Gore voters' ballots were thrown away. Bush's lead in Florida is less than 2,000 votes.

We The People need to show the media and the parties that this will not stand. Below is a list of protest sites for this Saturday; this list is growing so check back if your city isn't here.

Make signs, show up, bring friends, call your local newspapers and TV stations, and demand ONE PERSON, ONE VOTE!
