DESCRIPTION
"If election "irregularities" in one state are
allowed to invalidate the nation's popular vote, then democracy
is in real trouble."¹
This Web site began as a simple listing of locations
to protest the election and turned into a grassroots movement. This movement,
"direct action democracy"², is due to the creativity
and spirit of the people involved; and the fact that it is not top down
at all, but bottom up. That's a major distinction. This is truly participatory.
Through participation and a common purpose people from
across our nation have been able to organize and make their voices
heard. People have come together to protest the injustice of a democracy
gone awry.
CounterCoup.org strives to unite people with others
within their locality so that they may work together for change
in our political system. By working together locally we create a
chain reaction that is felt across our nation. Together we can restore
democracy to America. One neighborhood at a time.
Democracy and fairness are issues that transcend party
lines. If people, party-affiliated or not, are unified and work toward
the same goals, it will turn the tide and put the power back where it
belongs in the votes of the people. It won't happen overnight;
however, with work and perseverance we can make changes in our political
system turning our goals into reality.
"100% We need to give this our all and not
stop halfway. It will take a lot of hard work and commitment. Our
country is worth it. Democracy is worth it. All the issues we support
are worth it. We can take back our country and make it everything
it was meant to be. It won't happen on its own and our elected officials
won't do it for us. We have to do it."³
