- THE ARTIST'S BEGINNINGS...
Jane's Fragments was born over 10 years ago. My original paintings were done on small, smooth stones that I gathered on the shores of Bright Lake, Ontario (watching a grown woman crawling around on a stony beach, must have been an interesting sight I am sure). There is an art to selecting the right 'canvas' and then deciding on the perfect scene to compliment it. Once the paint has dried, a thin coat of varathane is then applied to provide a protective coating. Each stone was transformed into a pin, to be worn on a favourite fishing jacket, winter coat, jacket lapel, or to add to the popular pin collectors "collected" works. Each person who has purchased a Jane's Fragments Pins, have made his or her choice based on a special memory the scene brings to mind. A favourite vacation spot they went to every year, where they lived as a child, a "safe place" they have pictured in their mind or perhaps just a quieter place in time.
...AND NOW
Eventually Jane's Fragments expanded and my paintings are now displayed on larger findings, pieces of tree branches, bark, or whatever catches my interest, that have also been gathered along Northern Ontario's boreal lakes, streams, and forests. They are available in various sizes, ranging from large enough to use as a doorstop to medium sized for display (or if so inclined, a paperweight). Whether you have a practical application or choose to leave on display for everyone to admire, these unique pieces of art will evoke childhood memories of favourite vacation spots, or a wish to find that special place and slip away to a calmer place in time. Since I know that there are great moments in everyone's photo albums, I also do custom work based on your special pictures or photos. Included with your Jane's Fragments piece is a copy of the following information card (and the artist signs each piece):
"Jane's Fragments are hand-painted fragments that I have gathered along the Northern Ontario's boreal lakes, streams, and forests. Each of my pieces are unique scenes that depict Northern Ontario's nature at its most beautiful."
