The savannah is the outcome of a spotted shorthair cat and a beautiful African Serval. Servals dwell either in the jungle or on the plains of Africa. Males can weigh up to 40 lbs. and females can weigh up to 25 lbs. The savannah has been demonstrated only since the year 2000. They are graceful, friendly, sociable cats. They do not differ much from other shorthair cats regarding care and behavior. Their diet should be of high-quality food such as Iams, or Mazuri small feline diet, or a division of Purina foods.  They get along with well other house pets. Like their ancestors, savannahs love water and enjoy a bath every so often. They also like to play games, fetch as being one of their favourites.

They are a tall, lean cats with long legs and a long neck. The ears are quite large with slightly rounded tips. The head is smaller in proportion to the body. When the face is viewed from the front it should form a distinct triangle. F1 savannahs known as the first generation can weigh more then 10 kg (22lb) and can stand up to 45 cm at the shoulder.

Their rosettes are very beautiful and similar to the African Serval. The savannah is a very rare breed, but is becoming more and more popular as people are becoming more demanding of them. F1 male kittens start at about $3500, F1 female kittens will start at $7500. The F2's and F3 kittens will sell for considerably less than the F1's. Their prices vary depending on gender, generation and quality of the kitten.
