Our Lives Depend on It

With the great wealth of information we currently possess on all types of different sciences, mathematics and sociology, it is very easy to assume that humans have learnt everything there is to know. Very many times throughout history, people have commented that everything that was to be learnt has been learnt, or that everything that could be invented has been invented, only to be proved foolish by advances in any of these areas.

One of the most important things to keep in mind when approaching science is that one should always have an open mind. One should always be ready to be proved wrong, as happens only too often when dealing with the universe. Science in itself is a constant learning process, on that never ends. Scientists are always developing new theories, improving old ones, changing preconceived ideas, and sometimes completely proving themselves wrong in their conjectures. It is for this reason that we must always keep in mind the fact that science is not something solid, but something we can always keep learning about.

In my opinion, research and scientific development is one of the most important advancements in the world right now. Science is no longer merely theoretical and abstract, inapplicable to the real world. Rather, it is the basis of all the greatest technological, agricultural, forensic, medical and financial advancements of the current generation. The applications of science are all around us, and as scientists continue learning new things about how the universe and the things in it function, they continue to gain the means to develop new and cutting edge technology. The learning process has resulted in the development of some of the most advanced and useful applications in the world.

I believe that one of the biggest mistakes that the world can make is to underestimate the power that science has in our lives. Never should people forget that their very lifestyles depend on the constant research, experimentation and application done by millions of engineers, scientists, designers, experimenters, testers and researchers around the world. I believe that at the current juncture in history, one of the biggest mistakes the governments of the world could make is to reduce or minimize the funding being received by seemingly erratic scientific ventures, because it is often out of the most obscure and detailed scientific breakthroughs that the greatest inventions have been developed.

It is also my opinion that schools around the globe should continue to emphasize the important of constant scientific inquiry to their students, not bogging down students simply with theory, but giving them the chance to explore for themselves the fascinating and full world of science and discovery.

In conclusion, I believe that a greater emphasis on the importance of science in our world is in order, and that a better appreciation for the impact of science in our daily lives should be constantly brought to the forefront. People should never once forget that science in all it's theory can have the most basic and useful applications. So the next time you find yourself wondering why you would possibly have to learn about some obscure scientific fact, keep in mind that ninety percent of your lifestyle is supported by some kind of science.
