Caitlin Reece is a Vancouver Island, BC, private investigator particularly concerned with crimes against women, children, and animals. There is a regular cast of supporting characters, including a doctor who lost her license to practice medicine because she performed illegal abortions, an animal psychologist who is (here's a suprise) a mysterious, mystical Asian, and some computer nerds. I find the mysticism in these books half-baked. But the writing is stronger than that found in many Naiad mysteries.
