Somewhere around the third or fourth book in the series, Carol publically comes out, which is refreshing in lesbian cop books. She seems to get beat up, shot, bludgeoned, or stabbed rather frequently, but Carol Ashton always solves the crime in the end. These are diverting books, offering a mix of lesbian romance and detective ficition in fairly even proportions.
