Amanda Pepper teaches English at Philly Prep, a school for under-achieving rich kids. There are plenty of jokes about the horrors of teaching adolescents, and a running (though very old and very tired) gag about the horrors of being a spinster schoolteacher. Amanda's mother is determined to marry her off, and C.K. Mackenzie, a Philadelphia policeman, seems as good a candidate as any. The books can be amusing, but the single teacher bit was already tired when Eve Arden did it as Our Miss Brooks in the 50's.
