There is a potential for a stage 2 of another 40MW making a total
of 120MW
which Lloyd Stumer said would be enough to supply all of Cairns.
Most of the information on this wind farm came from an article on the Net by the Courier Mail. The project is expected to cost Aust$250 million. NineMSN announced, 2009/08/11, that the traditional land owners, the Yuku-Baja-Muliku Land Trust, had come to an agreement with "US-based National Power Company" (it seems that National Power is to build the wind farm) on the construction of the farm. The same article stated that the project is still awaiting approval from the state government, and that this could take up to two years. |

Coopers Gap wind farmAlso known as Dalby wind farmOriginally proposed by Investec Bank, this project was aquired by AGL in December 2008. If built, it will be on a 12 000ha site at Cooranga North near Dalby. (Cooranga North is 50km north of Dalby and around the mid point between Dalby and Kingaroy.)A Net article by Queensland Country Life described it as being "located mainly on ridge lines in an area known as Coopers Gap" and "The area specified is defined as starting about 3km from the Bunya Highway and extending south to the Keranga North Niagara Road north of Bell." It seems that 'Keranga North' should be Cooranga North. The formal proposal is at present "the subject of a development application with the South Burnett and Dalby Regional Councils." "Pending approvals, the project is likely to commence construction in mid-to-late 2009, with the wind farm being fully operation by late 2011." Queensland Country Life reported that the wind farm was expected to generate about 1700GWh of electricity per year. |

The ABC on-line news reported that Mayor of Dalby Regional Council said that the landholders would be paid $10 000 per turbine per year; this is unusually generous. They also reported that the estimated cost of the wind farm is $1.2 billion and that it would be operating within three years (ie. by 2011). |

It was reported by Louise O'Keeffe in
The Chronicle, 2009/01/08,
that "AGL is continuing to develop the project".
On 2009/06/18 AGL announced that they had bought the rights "to develop a smaller wind farm in Queensland which would allow AGL to expand its existing wind farm development at Crows Nest near Toowoomba, by 20 turbines. This would increase the potential capacity of Crow's Nest to approximately 200MW".
It is possible that the Transfield development that AGL bought to extend Crows Nest is Crediton or High Road wind farm. |
On some maps it will be named Prince of Wales Island. |

This wind farm is near Ravenshoe on the Atherton Tablelands. Previously owned by Stanwell Corporation; Transfield Services Infrastructure Ltd. bought all Stanwell's wind farms in December 2007. Transfield have an informative site on the farm at "http://www.tsinfrastructurefund.com/ infrastructure_assets/windy_hill_wind_farm.htm". |

From PowerCorp, who designed and constructed the wind farm
I wrote to Transfield seeking more information, specifically the annual production and capacity factor of this wind farm, on 13th April 2008, but had received no reply by 2008/06/11. |

In addition to the wind farms detailed above many others have been proposed
(table below).
If and when any of these proposed wind farms look likely to be built, and as I get more information, I will write them up in more detail. If any readers have information concerning these I would appreciate a note, my email address is at the top of this page. Until a wind farm gets at least to the point where an application for approval has been submitted to the relevant authority it may be little more than wishfull thinking and is not worth covering in more detail than that below. |
