Imagine the United States is in the process of establishing a space colony. Who will be going? Would you go? Many of the early immigrants arrived in the New World as a result of the push/pull theory. Many migrated due to being pushed away by negative considerations in their place of origin or others were pulled to the New World by positive circumstances in their destination. In this section you will study about the conditions that pushed the English out of their homeland and the circumstances that pulled them to North America.
In this section you will be able to:
  • Identify on a map the New England, Middle and Southern Colonies
  • Describe the difference between and identify royal, proprietary and charter colonies
  • Examine the Great Awakening and how it helped bring colonists together
  • Describe the contribution Catholics, Puritans, and Quakers gave to America
  • Analyze what it takes to establish a successful colony
