___Activity 1: Due August 23
Let's begin with Portugal. On a map #1 that Mr. Navis gives you, highlight the areas in the new world the Portuguese explorers traveled to that are discussed in the textbook pp. 27 - 36. This map should include a legend, a compass rose, a scale indicator, and a caption. Glue this map into your notebook. The type of ship that was used by Portugal for trading was called a caravel. Draw a picture of a caravel below this map.

___Activity 2: Due August 24
Spain explored South America more than any other country. As a matter of fact, Peru was the empire of South America. On map #2, highlight the voyages taken by the Spanish explorers Balboa, Ponce de Leon, Cortéz, Navarez, Pizzaro, de Soto and Coronado. Find a map in your readings that contain the two viceroyalty areas that Spain conquered during the time of exploration. Color the area covered by the viceroyalties on the map. This map should include a legend, a compass rose, a scale indicator, and a caption. Glue this map into your notebook.

___Activity 3: Due August 25
The Dutch, English, and French exploration of North America focused on finding a quicker route to Asia. They were looking for the Northwest Passage. On map #3 highlight the journeys of the Dutch, English, and French exploration of North America. This map should include a legend, a compass rose, a scale indicator, and a caption. Glue this map into your notebook.

___Activity 4: Due August 31
Now that your maps are complete, it's time to evaluate the results of explorations after the voyages. You will do this by grouping yourself with 3 other classmates. With your group, create a five page newspaper with a title that has something to do with explorers. Details for the paper can be found by clicking here. For details, click on the title. For the newspaper template, click here.

___Activity 5: Due September 5
As a final exam, you are to write a one page analysis identifying five Causes and Effects of the Spanish exploration. What were the long term causes [Columbus's landing in the Caribbean], the immediate causes [Conquest of the Aztec by Cortéz], and the overall effects they would have on the future of the world.
