The Early Explorers Come to America
                                       Chapters 1 ~ 2
Welcome to the first unit of United States history. Where did it all start? Someone had to discover the Americas? Who did the EXPLORING? Where did they come from? Why did they come? What was it like?

Did you know explorers to the new world were from Spain, the Netherlands, England and France. Spanish explorers like Columbus, Balboa, Cortez, de Leon, de Soto, and Coronado became very famous. Other's like Drake, Verrazano, Raleigh, Carter, Champlain, Cabot and Hudson are not as well known here in South America. Each one of these explorers contributed to the formation of a new world.

By the end of this period of exploration in history, you will be able to do the following:

  • explain why explorers came to the Americas;
  • determine where the countries explored were located;
  • evaluate the results of explorations after voyages;
  • analyze the cause and effect of explorations on the future of the world.

  • From here you must begin with the Readings section. The readings will focus on information you can find in your book and also sources from the Internet. After you are finished, move on to the Activities. To make sure you have completed all the necessary work, check the Rubric to be sure you are done.

    Have fun EXPLORING our world!
