The United States and Latin America
Welcome to the Reading pages. International relations for the United States began by focusing their attention on Latin America.

Once the United States was established, they began to grow. They didn't want foreign countries such as Spain, the Netherlands, Portugal, or England coming into North America and claiming land. The 13 colonies soon expanded to 18 states. Soon after 18 states they US bought the territories of Indiana and Mississippi. The Louisiana Purchase came about as a surprise. Read about it in your textbook, Call to Freedom on pages 299 and 303. Americans wanted to know more about this country they had just purchased and sent out the explorers Zebulon Pike and Lewis and Clark.

Your assignment to be completed in your notebook:
1. Draw and label a map of the Louisiana Purchase in your notebook.
