How We Met

Paul and I met in Grade 12 of high school in Guelph.  I had just moved to town and we were in the same Physics class and had some of the same friends.  In January of that year (January 11, 1998), we started dating and from there it is history.

How We Got Engaged

I'm sure most people already know this story in detail...but I love telling it!

The Date: April 20, 2003

I had been doing my last semester of university abroad in France and Paul had been working on a coop term in Arizona.  It was really important for both of us to have these neat experiences, although it was hard being apart.  Halfway through my semester, I decided to fly to Arizona (from France - 13 hours!) to see Paul for 5 days.  We had a great 5 days together, but then it was time for me to go back to France.

Before we each had left Canada, Paul had booked a flight to come and travel with me in Europe for the last few weeks of April.  While we were apart, we would always look forward to "April in Paris" and Paul even found a song entitled "April in Paris" - how cute!  So on April 18, I met Paul in Paris and we were very excited to see each other after so long.

We had planned on going up the Eiffel Tower at night (like all good tourists!).  We waited in line forever to get to the top and Paul had become quiet and restless, but I really didn't have much clue what was about to happen.  When we got to the top, it was very windy and cold.  We looked around for a bit and talked and I was like, "Okay, let's go now..."  Paul kept saying he wanted to stay longer.  He started to say nice things, which wasn't too weird, cause you all know how much of a romantic he is.   Then this lady came up beside us to use the viewfinder and we moved.  By this time, I really wanted to get inside, but Paul starts with the nice words again.  He turns to me, drops to his knee and proposes and I was in total shock.  I didn't even really say "yes" as I was in so much shock!  He tried to put the ring (which is so beautiful and he picked out himself and he guessed on the size and it fits!) on the wrong finger.

We were both so excited and we just hung around the Eiffel Tower for a few more hours.  We actually renamed the tower, "our tower".  We then got to spend the next few weeks savoring our news and traveling around France, Italy, Spain and England.
