HYTTY Macedonian Infantry

A Review by Nick Grant

A wee while back Jonathan Rhodes very generously sent me a box of HYTTY Macedonian Infantry to review.

So here we go, my first negative review...(keep in mind fellas that this is just my personal view (like the rest of the site really) - it's just an opinion!)

Not to put too finer point on it...these things are, well, rubbish!! I would suggest that you don't waste your money...unless you're looking to complete a collection or snap shot of just what plastic figures are available on the market at one particular point in time. To me, that could be the only justification of purchasing these figures, I can see no use for them as wargaming miniatures, or even for diaorama's. Unless you're after something really, how shall I put it, out of the ordinary.

What's wrong with them? Well, you'll have to try and get hold of some to see - I've been asked to take the scans off the site! But if you did, you'd notice the difference in the comparative sizes of the figures and some very odd poses. Also the moulding is not well done and the plastic itself seems to be of poor quality.

And it would seem that I am not alone in my opinions. This from Jonathan himself...

"I would add that it is next to impossible to put the shields and weapons on to the figures. Someone making a diorama could sprinkle the weapons on the ground for some realism, but that is about all they a good for. The colour and different types of plastic in the same set is unacceptable.

The only figures that are any use what so ever are the figures with the sarissa.

With the quality of the other plastic soldier companies (Hat, Italeri, Zvezda), I do not see how Hytty can continue to compete in the market place. These figure are also very expensive compared to other figures on the market, making them a bit of a rip off as well.

One of the most disappointing things about these figures is that Hytty has written on the side of the box some of their future products, for instance: Medieval Artillery, Ancient War Machines, Roman Siege Troops, Parthian Heavy Cavalry and an Ancient/Medieval Fort. At this stage it just would not be worth buying any of those sets, unless there is a dramatic improvement in quality."

Jonathan

So there you have it. I would respectfully suggest - don't waste your money!
